During this short trek you will cross the pass between two snow-capped
mountains: Chimborazo and Carihuairazo, both extinct volcanoes.
Hiking on the páramo of the Chimborazo Reserve you will have
excellent views of these peaks. This trek requires a normal physical
health.
-
Day 1 We leave at 9:00 a.m. from Riobamba
by car and drive for about 45 minutes to the Chimborazo Reserve.
We put our equipment on horses and then start hiking on the
páramo grasslands. After about 5 - 6 hours of hiking
we reach the foot of Carihuairazo, where we make our camp at
about 4000 m. / 13.124 f.
-
Day 2 After breakfast we leave our campsite
and continue hiking. If the weather is clear, we will have good
views of Chimborazo, Carihuairazo and Altar. During the hike
we may see the only species of hummingbird that lives at high
altitude (the `Star of Ecuador´), and vicuña's,
a kind of lama. After about 5 hours of hiking we arrive at a
small road, from where we will drive back by car to Riobamba.
