A trip by mountain bike is a great way to explore Ecuador’s countryside. From Riobamba you can make a variety of cycle tours in the beautiful Chimborazo province.

We provide you new, full suspension mountain bikes and all the necessary biking equipment: helmets, gloves, pants, knee and elbow pads. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is available for support during the trip.

CHIMBORAZO HIKE & BIKE (1 day)

We leave at 9.00 a.m. from Riobamba. For about 1 hour we drive through the pictoresque landscape of the Andean highlands before we enter the Reserva Faunística Chimborazo.

After crossing El Arenal, a desert-like area where you can observe the vicuañas (a kind of lama), we park the car at 4800 m. altitude, near the first refuge. From here we hike to the Whymper refuge at 5000 m. altitude. After the hike we will have a meal with hot coca-tea, and then we will start the donwhill mountainbike ride. You will descend from 4800 m. to 2900 m. altitude, over a distance of 35 km.  Our guide and support vehicle will stay close to you for assistance.

ATILLO BIKE TOUR (2 days)

Day 1  Departure from Riobamba at 9.00 a.m. We travel by car for about 1 hour until we arrive at the small town of Guamote. At about 3000 m. altitude we start to cycle on a small country-road, passing several indigenous villages.

There will be quite a few up-hills before we reach the highest point at 4200 m., but we will be rewarded with a long downhill ride to 3500 m. After about 75 kilometer of cycling we will arrive at Atillo. We will spend the night in a traditional choza (thatched hut).

Day 2  After breakfast we take a hike to a viewpoint. With clear weather we have excellent views of the active volcano Sangay. After lunch we cycle back to Riobamba on a different road, enjoying the scenery of the Andean highlands.
Arrival in Riobamba at about 18.00
