The ascent of Iliniza Sur, Ecuador's sixth highest summit, is a real challenge for experienced climbers. This mountain has steep ice walls (some are 80 degrees) and many crevasses. Experience in ice climbing is a must. |

Day 1 We leave Riobamba at 8:30 a.m. and drive for 3 ½ hours to the area of La Virgen at 4240 m. / 13.910 ft. We walk for about 4 hours to the refuge at 4650 m. / 15.256 ft. On this hike each person carries his backpack with equipment.
Day 2 At 3:00 a.m. we leave the refuge. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the glacier, and the rest of the ascent will take about 4 hours, but depending on the ice conditions this may take longer. After the descent we have lunch in a restaurant and then drive back to Riobamba. Arrive at about 4:00 p.m.
DIFFICULTY: difficult; you need to have ice climbing experience and a basic acclimatization

WE PROVIDE: - mountain guide (1 guide climbs with maximum 2 persons) - transportation from / to Riobamba - accommodation in refuge - meals (2 box lunches, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, 1 meal in restaurant) and purified drinking water - climbing ropes and safety equipment
