Carihuairazo (5.020 m / 16.470 ft) |

| Carihuairazo - its name means `mountain of the wind`- is an extinct volcano near Chimborazo. This trip is a good option if you want to practice the use of crampons and ice axe, and as acclimatization for the highest peaks of Ecuador.

Day 1 We leave Riobamba at 9:30 a.m. by car and drive for 2 hours to the foot of Carihuairazo volcano. In the afternoon we make a short hike on the páramo grasslands and then rest for acclimatization. We spend the night in a basic refuge at 4200 m. / 13.780 ft. Day 2 At 4:00 a.m. we leave the refuge. After about 2 hours of climbing, we reach the glacier and then continue for another 3 hours to the central peak. The climb is not technical but the last 20 m. can be some difficult if the amount of snow is little. The descent to the base camp takes about 3 hours. From there we return by car to Riobamba. Arrival at Riobamba at about 2:00 p.m. DIFFICULTY: moderate; a basic acclimatization is recommended
DEPARTURE: any day WE PROVIDE: - mountain guide (1 guide climbs with maximum 2 persons) - transportation from / to Riobamba - accommodation in refuge - meals (2 box lunches, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast) and purified drinking water - climbing ropes and safety equipment
